Guide to Bhutan

Norzin lam main traffic junction

Policeman giving singal in Thimphu

Quite famously, Thimphu is the only world's capital without the traffic lights. There actually used to be installed in 1980s, but there was only few cars at that time so it served no real purpose and it was finally removed after short trial period.

By now, the traffic lights would definitely do the job, but the policeman on the busy Norzin lam junction, signaling with distinctively well-turned moves, became the part of the tradition. And that is protected in Bhutan above all!
